I grew up in the North of England just outside of the Lake District. Now averse to rain, gray skies and cold weather of all kinds, after 15 years of talking about it I am finally upping sticks and emigrating to Australia. Some time in October 2009 that grand continent will be blessed with my presence!
I am a software engineer by day (and often by night) and my interests lie in creating scriptable/programmable software, DSL Tools, VSX, Software Production Lines, Test-Driven Development and Code Generation.
Fascinating, I know.
My main hobby is also my job, which means I have never worked a day in my life.
My other interests are hiking, trekking and cycling which is in stark contrast to my slothful existence as a hefty youth. I got hooked on hiking a few years ago after doing the Tra Mare e Monti in Corsica and have since returned to complete the GR20 and Mare-a-Mare Sud. The GR20 was particularly easy *, and I recommend it to all first time trekkers. And take a heavy pack!
Since then, and to scratch my itchy feet, I spent the winter of 2008/2009 in East Africa where I trekked near Lake Turkana for a month and then summited Mt Kenya, Mt Meru & Mt Kilimanjaro. My up coming trip will see me starting (but not necessarily finishing!) the Red Via Alpina and then cycling across Australia.
Hopefully, maybe, possibly, then, I’ll be able to sit still.
